The other night was a first for Jeff! In the time that Jeff has lived here we have had bad weather and thunderstorms, and been under a Tornado Watch, but never had a Tornado Warning. We might have had a tornado warning but it always happened when he was out of town, and they were not as serious.
What;s the difference between a watch and a warning???
WATCH- Be on the look out that the weather has the potential to create a tornado, but no tornado has been spotted
WARNING- There has been a tornado spotted or rotation in the clouds, and you should take cover immediately in the center of your home.
About two weeks ago we knew that bad weather was coming so we went over to my parents house like we always do ( I would not want to be caught in a third story apartment in a tornado). It was looking like everything was going to blow over quickly when the weather man started to say that there was a tornado warning for the city of Coppell, and that it was heading right in the direction of Lewisville... I got pretty panicked. ( For those who don't know I am horribly afraid of tornados, I have grown up here my whole life, and have taken cover for a few, but all the while crying and shaking... I actually asked Jesus in to my heart in my bathtub at the age of 10 taking cover for a tornado.... It has always been a joke around our house and I get teased a lot because I will not go anywhere even if I know that we are under a watch.) About 5 minutes passed and the sirens started going off and we were grabbing the dogs and putting them in the bathroom with us. So its Jeff, myself, and two dogs sitting in the bathtub, while my mom and dad where standing in the bathroom with the other dog. After you are in the tub you are supposed to have a flashlight and a hand held radio to be listening, but we just turned the TV up since we did not think that it was going to last that long. After about 10 minutes the weatherman said that it was through Lewisville and the sirens cut off. Luckily we did not have a tornado that touched down, just some hail and really high winds, there was a tornado that hit in Coppell and took the roof off some houses. This was very early in the season to have a tornado. Tornado season is usually from about March- May, and then again from August-October. Jeff was happy to say that he lived through his first real Tornado Warning.
Here is a picture of us in the tub after we knew that it was going to be okay!
There are several different tornado sirens around town, there is actually one about 500 ft. from Jeff and I's apartment so when it goes off it is so loud, they test them every first Wednesday of the month... Here is what the sirens in Lewisville look like.
I thought that I would also attach a link to a video of the sirens going off, its not like a ambulance siren, it has a sound of its own,,, and it scares me to death every time it goes off...
