I am here!!!!

Well I finally decided to come into the world, and let me say, it was quite a trip! I was born on Friday July 2, 2010 at 3:22 pm weighing 7 pounds and 2 oz , and measuring 19 3/4 inches long. Here is a little timeline describing my journey.....

Mom and Dad went to the doctor on Tuesday and since I was 3 days past due, they did a sonogram to get some pictures to make sure I was growing well and that I had enough fluid. They decided to "estimate" on my weight and told mom and dad that I was measuring 8 lbs 2 oz, and that they could be off a pound either way. After talking to mom's doctor they set a date for Friday to induce labor if nothing happened before then, and mom was going to be admitted Thursday night to start some other treatments to help her dilate! Mom was a little upset by this because she was not wanting to be induced, but knew that if she waited longer she might have trouble with labor if I was a bigger baby.

Things started happening Wednesday night. Mom starting having contractions about every 15 minutes and was up all night long until about 6 o'clock when things stopped. Throughout the day on Thursday she had about 2 contractions every hour, but still held off until 8:00 that night to go in to the hospital. Mom and dad got their things together and headed to the hospital for their admit time.

It took a while to get things set up at the hospital, but when mom got there she was already dilated to a 1, and only needed on dose of the medicine to get her to a 3. This all happened pretty quickly and before her and dad knew it she was having contractions every 5 minutes. Mom decided that this was a good time to get the epidural. At about 3 o'clock the anesthesiologist came in to get things set up. They asked dad to sit in a chair on the other side of the room ( but he could still see). As they were getting things all hooked up, I guess dad got a little too excited about everything because he decided he had enough of that and passed out! The nurses ran over to start taking care of him, while they finished things up with mom.

The next few hours, consisted of mom trying to sleep, dad trying to recoup from the "incident" and waiting for me to decide what I wanted to do. At about 9:00 am, the doctor came into break mom's water and see if that would spur things along before starting pitocin. When they broke the water, the doctor saw that there was some meconium in the water and wanted the NICU team to be on-call just in case I needed it. The nurses gave mom one dose of pitocin and I quickly let them know, that I was not a fan. They decided to stop the pitocin and let things just take a little longer. Finally at about noon, things were complete and mom was ready to push, but I still had not dropped and did not want to turn my head the way they wanted me too... So they let mom and me sit there for about an hour and a half until I decided to cooperate. Mom started to push at about 1:30 pm and I was born at 3:22 pm, the NICU team checked me out, and said that I was good to go, and that everything looked great. Mom and dad were so happy, and we were especially happy that dad was able to handle the delivery and was able to experience it.

The few days in the hospital were a little rough, because mom spiked a temperature after her water broke, they gave her and I antibiotics throughout the weekend, so that meant that I got to have a lovely IV and get treatments all weekend long. Our pediatrician was a little concerned and possibly wanted to keep me for a few more days in the hospital, which mom was not excited about, but wanted to make sure that I got the medicine that I needed. Thankfully the doctor said I was doing much better on Sunday and we were all three able to go home later on Sunday night at about 7:00.

Our first few nights have been pretty good, I am a little confused on my days and nights but I know that I will figure that all out soon... Here are a few pictures of my first few days in the world... I hope that you enjoy them, and look forward to hearing more from me soon. I have heard that mom is not the best at blogging so I have already decided that I will be taking over this blog from here on out!

My daughter had her days and nights mixed up too, it took her about 5 weeks to figure it out, but by 6 weeks she was sleeping through the night!

Glad she is finally here! If you dont have a Moby wrap or some kind of baby wearer, I would suggest it, it is the only thing that kept me sane! :)
